About the event
Our theme for discussion: Disrupting the Stories We Tell: Writing a New Liberatory Story
What is a Salon?
During the Harlem Renaissance — the Black social, cultural and intellectual awakening of the 1920s and 1930s — a Harlem salon was a gathering of the nation's most gifted and creative thinkers.
It was in these salons that the great issues that affected the Black community were debated and many of the great Black artists of that time were inspired.
At our salon, we will gather around one topic or theme of the evening led by an expert within field of the topic. Cocktail hour will give guests a chance to meet and connect with other guests in the room and loosen up before our conversation. We will ring a 5 min bell to gather everyone before the conversation begins. Our goal is to cultivate community and expand our understanding and compassion of one another through conversation.Â
Salons are:
- A Rave For The Intellect
- Thoughtfully Curated (Food, Guests, Topics Of Discussion)
- Always Warm, Never Perfect
- A Convergence Of Conversation + Connection + Community
Salons are not:Â
- Just another dinner party
- A debate
